Why am I Here?

So, I became a bit of a cliche and decided I wanted to become a writer. The word writer is actually a very scary word for me to say aloud as I don’t think I’m good at writing. I babble far too much and go off track and train of thought all the time.

I was sitting on a beach at the beginning of August, in Bude, Cornwall and had just finished reading a book, written by a lady, I think who lived in my village a few years ago. I have at least come across her at some point in my life as her name and face are very familiar.

Anyway, I sat listening to the waves crashing against the rocks wondering whether I could do the same. It is the first book she has written and is currently in the charts now! So is this something I could do? Would I be able to make it as an author?

This is why I am here. I thought I should test the waters of writing by starting up a blog. Little paragraphs are not scary at all … Maybe I might be good and people may like what I write.

Only time will tell …

  1. I’d much prefer to hear the truth. I love a bit of spark in posts I read. And I most always write “sparky” posts myself. Here’s wishing you all the coming success you can carry. If you want to write a book, go for it. I think you’re wise in cultivating your craft via this blog first. You’re simply revving up your engines. Highest and Best!

  2. Hi! I thought I’d pop over now and say ‘hello’ before I hop off to bed! It seems we have a few things in common. I can babble and waffle for England – and I love Cornwall. We (meaning husband, blogging daughter, Louise, and me) were there in June, and we met up with our lovely blogging friend Draliman, who lives in St Austell. We’ve been to Bude many times and I love the beach and red sandstone cliffs.
    Go for your dreams and get writing! I had to wait until I retired – much too late. With six children and a teaching career, writing wasn’t possible until then. Now I’m writing my fourth book – the third of a trilogy. So, just go for it!

I don’t get a lot of time to sit and write unfortunately with children etc but i have realised I need to find the time to. Thanks for the follow! Much appreciated! I have set myself some time aside on the weekend to catch up with my followers blogs. It’s the part of blogging I feel very important. I look forward to reading soon!

  4. Writing is a great idea. Why not? And I know how difficult it can be with children and all. But I try to have about 1h of me time, after they go to bed. Some days I almost fall asleep before them haha, but we keep trying. Good luck on your writing journey!

    1. Thank you Cristina! Trying to find time to write is my main problem at the moment. Once my partner is home i have him to entertain once the kiddies are asleep! I tend to write when he goes to bed which results in a very late night!

  5. I found my way via Colleen and Ronavan’s writers quote wednesday prompt. I thought it funny that we are sort of neighbours … both in the west country. I am living in Somerset; now well into our third year of residing in rural bliss; we would be if it were a little easier to intergrate. keep going lady you’re on your way.To be a writer one must write… I think you are doing that nicely.😇 bye for now *waves*

    Just enjoy your writing and don’t beat yourself up, if it takes a while. Life gets in the way sometimes (rather a lot in my case)but, you find your way back. X

  11. I love what I see on your blog! You definitely gained a follower! I myself have said for a long time I wanted to be a writer, but just never did anything about it. I also decided a blog would be a great place to at least start! I look forward to seeing more from you!

  12. Think of it this way. If you write 500 words a day, you will have 182,500 words in a year. Spend half of that time writing a 91,250 word novel and half of it editing the darn thing and you will have at least one novel a year. If I can do it, you can. One thing the world needs more of is great stories and I am sure you have some great ones to tell. Remember this, a day without writing is still a day without writing. It’s my motto but you can use it.

  13. One of my favorite science fiction series was written by a woman named Alice Mary Norton. However, in the 1950s and 60s, women weren’t thought of as credible scifi writers, so she worked under the pseudonym “Andre Norton”. Her list of works is vast and highly respected in the field.

    The writing and publication world has changed much thanks to the advent of the information age, both allowing just about anyone to publish via blogging and/or indie publishing, but also making it harder to capture a large, dedicated audience (just because there are so many more writers plying their wares).

    Keep doing what you love. You’ll get there.
