I’m Writing a Novel!

I’ve wanted to write a novel for a long time. When I was a child I would write stories on scraps of paper, read them and throw them in the bin never thinking they were good enough. I never told anyone about it either, just a handful of people I know who are close to me.

I’m now at a point in my life where I want to revive that childhood dream and actually write a novel and become a published writer.

I’ve been writing on this blog since last year in August and again I’ve never gone public with my family and Facebook friends officially but I guess that’s what I’m doing now.

I’m new, I get that I may not be the best writer as English wasn’t my strongest point at school but I’m writing and loving it. Surely that is what matters right?

So I guess this is it for me going public!

I really hope I can count on everyone with their support and will follow my journey!

NaNoWriMo Has Taken Over!

Yes! It is the month of preparation for this years  NaNoWriMo!

I’ve been absent from the blogging world for more than a week and I’m missing the daily updates and interaction. I guess it is my own fault as I’ve been preoccupied with preparation but I shouldn’t have neglected my followers! So apologies to you all!

So my news is that I am most definitely joining in with the thousands of other people who are going to write a 50’000 word novel in the month of November. I have no idea how I will fit in my 1’667 word count per day but I know I will be giving it a good go!

During the month of November, I will do weekly updates on how the process is going and whether I’m on target for my word count! That is a whole achievement in itself let alone actually winning!

If you want to know more about National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) please do ask. I do not know everything but I can at least try to answer any questions you may have.

Are you taking part? Have you done it before and most importantly what tips do you have for a first timer?

Time to Pull up Your Positivity Pants!

Today was a hard day!

It seemed like everything was going wrong until I realised I was looking at the day wrongly!

It’s all too easy to just carry on with day to day chores and routines without actually looking at the whole picture. When I know I have several things to do I procrastinate over it and waste so much time. If I actually got on and got things done I would be done quicker to then get to the stuff I actually want to do!

After a day of appointments, I never had time to get some of my writing done for my manuscript. I’ve been putting it off now for nearly 3 weeks because either I don’t have time today, I have a list of things to get done or I have washing and household chores to complete. There is always a list of house jobs waiting and you then get into the mindset that I never have time for me! It always seems like I make time for my partner, children and dog but do I actually make time for me? No! Never!

So today I took action and said I will!

I will get chores done first! I will make time for me!

I’ve booked a time slot to go to the local cafe to work on my manuscript! I won’t have the distractions and I won’t be there to ask when things need doing!

How do you fit time in?

Do you always put off doing what needs to be done?

Tell me your top tips for ‘Getting it Done!”

Blogging and Branding

I’m currently taking part in a ten-day challenge with WordPress, Blogging University.
Its aim is to increase audience and give my blog a kickstart. I’m still fairly new to blogging and starting out as a newbie is quite daunting to start a new career in something totally alien to me. I can write Facebook posts, emails and such like but to actually write with a professional purpose is the scary part.

The reason I started a blog was to gain experience in writing through a platform that is anonymous. Facebook doesn’t really give this and its creditability is somewhat questioned. I wanted a more professional feel where I can write freely without the criticism of family and friends views.

In time, they will be introduced to my blog but for now, I like to be me, in my thoughts which are spoken aloud.

So back to my task and my Goals!
I’ve set myself three goals that for me are important ones for very different reasons.

1.   I will publish three times a week over the next three months including a new weekly feature called #MummyTalks

This new feature will be a Thursday blog post about parenthood, the struggles and joys of being a Mum to my three beautiful children. The aim is to keep a regular input on my blog and hopefully attract new followers. I’m hoping to develop new writing styles and experiment with a variety of genre.

 2.   I want to increase my blog followers and interaction on my page by 50% by increasing my blog followers to 1’500 by 1st August 2017

I don’t like to set goals too high and yes, it is a very big goal I know, but we have to reach for the stars!

3.   In six months by 1st January 2017, I will link my blog to my personal Facebook profile and go public that I am writing a Novel.

Lastly, this is my biggest goal which is more personal for me. I suffer from anxiety. I will talk more about this in future blog posts. Linking my Facebook profile and going public is BIG. I want to be able to promote my manuscript progress on my blog and publically announce that I’m writing a novel. I’m a secretive person but not in a conceited way, I just like my private life to stay private.
So they are my goals for 2016. They are short term and long term. I will achieve them or at least try my very darn hardest to. I don’t like to fail! …
How about you?

What are your goals for the next year?

Have you set goals in the past yourself?

If so I would love to hear them.

Please post in comments to get that interaction started!
